Social Circle is a City with a population of 5,011 located about 50 miles east of Atlanta along Interstate 20 in Walton and Newton Counties. The City is seeking a Community Development Director. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the newly created Community Development Department. Significant responsibilities of the job include oversight of planning and development – both long and short-term, business licensing, historic preservation, ordinance development, annexation, permitting, and inspections. The Community Development Director will oversee the department’s budget and prepare reports for the Mayor and Council, Planning Commission, City Manager, and other government agencies and stakeholders. The Director will promote the goals of the Comprehensive Plan. He or she will prepare grant applications and seek alternate funding mechanisms related to planning, development, and zoning projects. The Director will select, supervise, and evaluate Department personnel.

- A Bachelor’s Degree in planning, public or business administration, urban policy, civil engineering, or a related field. A Master’s Degree in a similar field is preferred. AICP certification is desired.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible planning experience, including administration, policy making, and zoning administration responsibilities. Three years of supervisory experience preferred.
Salary Range and Benefits:
The starting salary is expected to be $84,000 to $96,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. The City also provides a generous benefits package that includes health, dental and life insurance paid by the City; participation in the Georgia Municipal Employee Retirement Defined Benefit Program; a 457b Plan; and various voluntary benefit options.
