City of Woodstock – Planner II

The City of Woodstock, Georgia is seeking a Planner II. This full-time position performs professional planning work including current planning (site development and building permits) as well as assisting with long-range planning efforts.

  • Serves as a project manager for public hearing processes including rezoning, annexation, variance, and conditional uses permit applications, performing reviews and analysis and communicating with applicants. Prepares staff reports to the Planning Commission and City Council for these projects.
  • Regularly prepares and conducts presentations to the Planning Commission and City Council. May also prepare and conduct presentations to the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), various committees, civic groups, and the public.
  • Reviews building permits, development permits, site plans, and plats for consistency with the Land Development Ordinance, other applicable zoning regulations, and any existing Conditions of Approval.
  • Coordinates projects with developers and consultants as well as with other City departments.
  • Conducts site visits and zoning site inspections; ensures compliance with approved plans and adopted codes as well as zoning conditions.
  • Responds to questions from the public, citizens, and elected officials; explains development processes and requirements; assists citizens with inquiries regarding available data sources, ordinances, City maps, status of current and proposed projects, various elements of comprehensive plan, City/county boundaries, service delivery zones, and functions of the Department.
  • Assists in research, review, and amendment of the Land Development Ordinance as necessary; assists in preparing reports; collects data and information; develops contacts; and coordinates meetings regarding economic development projects.
  • Assists with preparation, updates, and implementation of long-range plans, including the Woodstock Comprehensive Plan, Livable Centers Initiative Plans, Small Area Plans, and other specialized planning efforts.
  • Assists in evaluation of Development of Regional Impact (DRI) reviews and coordinates the City’s response to the state.
    Regularly attends meetings of the Planning Commission and City Council, as requested.
  • Assists with City events as requested.
  • Assists in updating and maintaining data, information, maps, and GIS system for the City.
  • Researches and prepares special projects as assigned.
  • Prepares and handles ordinances, zoning certifications, and general correspondence.
  • Attends professional development workshops and conferences to identify trends, issues, and changes in local government planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field;
  • Three (3) years of related work experience, preferably in public-sector planning; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Master’s degree in planning, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Requires a valid State of Georgia driver’s license or ability to obtain one within one (1) week of employment.

Salary Range
Starting salary: $52,000.00 – $63,500.00 / Year, depending on qualifications
