President Richard Osborne called the scheduled board meeting of Georgia Association of Zoning Administrators (GAZA) to order at 4:00 p.m.

Minutes of the previous board meeting held on November 2, 2018, in Eatonton, Georgia were distributed to all in attendance.  All board members been sent copies earlier by email.  After review, Allison Slocum made a motion, seconded by Lisa Jackson, to approve the minutes as written.  Unanimous approval.

Norman Pope, Secretary/Treasurer, provided all in attendance with a current financial report.  After a brief review of revenue and expenses, Lisa Jackson, made a motion, seconded by Tom O’Bryant, to approve the financial report.  Unanimous approval.

The scholarship committee reported that the winner of the Betty Gecoma Scholarship for 2018-2019, Gillian O’Bryant, has been paid.  Applications for the 2019-2020 scholarship must be postmarked by May 31, 2019.  One application has already been received.

Legislative committee reported that several attempts have already been made to revive SB2 (FAST ACT) from last year with some modifications.  The Georgia Legislature will also be dealing with potential uniform citation requirements, “tiny houses”, and several other potential regulations that could possibly impact both zoning and code enforcement.  As usual, this session will be monitored closely.

Website committee gave a short report on the re-establishment of the GAZA website.  Several vendors located in the U.S. have been contacted.  Ethan Calhoun will have more information along with a potential contract for our next scheduled board meeting.

The nominations committee composed of Allison Slocum, Lisa Jackson, and Jeanne Anne Marsh provided the board with two-member names to fill 4-year terms on the board.  Randy Mannino has agreed to serve a full four-year term as he filled the previous unexpired of Lisa Jackson when she moved to the position of Vice-President.  Mary Teter’s term expires at the end of this conference and Mary is considering retirement.  The nominations committee selected Toussaint Kirk from the city of Griffin to fill this four-year term.  These two names will be submitted to the general membership at tomorrow’s business meeting. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the business meeting.

The AICP committee reported that all sessions for the 2019 GAZA Winter Conference have been approved.  Many thanks to GPA for underwriting the cost of this approval.

Membership committee reported that membership for 2018 reached 190 members.  The goal established by the board for 2019 is 225 members.  Current membership for 201. Stands at 157 members.

The GAZA Summer Conference will be held in Savannah at the Riverfront Marriott on August 21-23, 2019.  Room rate with parking will be $168.00 per night.

The GAZA 2020 Winter Conference will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge Resort near LaGrange on February 5-7, 2020.  Room rates will be $103.00 plus $19.95 resort fee per night.  Rates will also apply fo the weekend if any member wants to have a family outing.

The board requested Jean Lord to secure information and rates from Chateau Elan, Callaway Gardens, Augusta, and Lake Lanier Islands as potential sites for the 2020 GAZA summer Conference in August.

With over 130 attendees at this Winter Conference, all sessions have been moved to Masters Hall in the Continuing Education Center at UGA.  President Richard Osborne assigned board members to introduce the various speakers and sessions.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:26 p.m.
