Dawson County – Planning Division Manager

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for managing and monitoring the operational and personnel activities of the Planning, Zoning, Licensing, and Permits division. Duties include supervising county licensing, permitting, and planning & zoning programs in order to ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local codes, providing customer service, developing and ensuring compliance by staff with policy and procedures, reviewing and approving reports, assisting with annual budget, and performing administrative functions of the department. The position requires strong leadership and organizational skills for confident, consistent, and respectful supervision of division employees.

Minimum Requirements:

Associated Professional License or Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Geographic Information System (GIS) or a related field.  Local government planning, zoning, licensing, and/or permitting experience is preferred.   Five years of increasingly responsible experience related to the planning approval process, including two years of management and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, special qualifications and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the job.  Applicant must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).  Applicant must pass a background check and drug screening.
