Board Meeting – October 23, 2024

President Ethan Calhoun called the scheduled board meeting of GAZA to order at 11:20 a.m.

Minutes of the previous board meeting held on August 12, 2024 were distributed to all in attendance for review.  Randy Mannino made a motion, seconded by Jeanne Anne Marsh to adopt the minutes as written. Unanimous approval.

The financial report was distributed to all in attendance. Norman Pope provided a review of revenue and expenses of the Association.  Lisa Jackson made a motion, seconded by Jeanne Anne Marsh, to approve the financial report as submitted.  Unanimous approval.

Jeanne Anne Marsh gave a short report on the work of the scholarship committee and how more involvement from GAZA members would be beneficial.  Deadline to submit apps for the 2025-2026 Bettye Gecoma Scholarship will be May 30, 2025.

Ethan Calhoun provided a report on the work of the Legislative Committee and what might be expected from the upcoming legislative session.  He also detailed the close working relationship between GMA, ACCG, and GAZA.

Communications committee continues to provide info to membership on legislative matters, conference locations, membership, and networking opportunities.

Lisa Jackson provided a report on the work of the sponsorship committee and the excellent giveaways and networking opportunities they were able to provide in Augusta for our most recent conference.

Discussion was held concerning the vacant board position and the possibility of an attorney filling that position.  Randy Mannino and Ethan Calhoun will investigate and report back to the board.

A decision was made unanimously to move the Awards presentation at each Summer Conference to the end of the second session on Thursday.

Norman Pope mentioned that the automated credit card payment option was being worked on and would be available soon.

According to UGA, the revenue from the Augusta Conference was $72,000 and the expenses were $73,000.

Columbus will be the host of the 2025 Winter Conference on February    12-14 with an expected attendance of 140. Rome will be the site for the 2025 Summer Conference on August 13-15.

Sessions and instructors were decided for the upcoming Columbus Conference.  Deadline to get info to Sharon Fenneran is November 4, 2024.
