The Butts County Board of Commissioners is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Planner to join our Planning and Development team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about community development, land use planning, zoning, and helping guide the future growth of one of Georgia’s fastest-growing counties.
Working under the direction of the Planning & Development Director, the Planner will assist with current and long-range planning initiatives while ensuring development projects comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
The Planner performs professional planning work involving zoning administration, land use planning, research, development review, and policy implementation. This position provides technical assistance to developers, citizens, county staff, and elected and appointed officials regarding planning and zoning matters.
The successful candidate will be organized, customer-focused, and possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
This position generally works normal County business hours; however, attendance at evening meetings of the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Commissioners, public hearings, and other meetings are required.
One (1) to three (3) years of municipal or local government planning experience. Experience interpreting zoning ordinances and development regulations.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of planning principles and land development processes.
- Ability to interpret maps, plats, site plans, and construction drawings.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with elected officials, developers, consultants, and the public.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
