President Nancy Seegar called the business meeting of GAZA to order at 11:30 AM.

Distribution of the minutes of the previous business meeting held on July 28, 2011 at Callaway Gardens, GA had been made to all in attendance. After review, Lisa Jackson made a motion, seconded by Allison Slocum, to approve the minutes as written. Unanimous approval.

Copies of the current financial report were distributed to all in attendance. Norman Pope delivered a short report on the financial activities of the Association. Ken Patton made a motion, seconded by Rosemary Street, to approve the financial report as submitted. Unanimous approval.

A request was made to the membership for volunteers to serve on the scholarship committee. Darryl Simmons, Lisa Jackson, Randy Gordon, and Ken Patton volunteered and were appointed by President Seegar.

The Nominations Committee, chaired by Ken Patton, delivered a proposed slate of officers to serve during the term February 2012 until February 2014. The proposed officers would be Randy Mannino – President; Ken Patton – Vice-President; and Norman Pope – Secretary / Treasurer. A call for nominations from the floor was made for any of the three positions. None were received. Ken Patton made a motion, seconded by Larry Howe, to close nominations. Unanimous approval. Proposed slate of officers was elected by acclamation.

Two positions on the GAZA Board of Directors came open due to terms expiring. The Nominations Committee that Darryl Simmons be elected to fill a four-year term beginning February 2012 and ending February 2016. Johnny N. Parham was also recommended for a four-year term beginning February 2012 and ending February 2016. Nominations from the floor were requested but none were received. Ken Patton made a motion, seconded by Mary Teter, to close nominations. Unanimous approval. The two proposed board members were elected by acclamation.

President Nancy Seegar announced to the general membership that the 2012 GAZA Summer Conference would be held at the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, GA on August 23 and 24. Everyone was encouraged to come and enjoy an exciting and informative program along with the beautiful scenery of the North Georgia mountains.

Announcements were made concerning membership and the Associations’ need to increase membership numbers. Anyone having articles or topics for the newsletter should contact Stacey Ward.

On a motion by Stacey Ward, the business meeting of GAZA was adjourned at 11:53 AM.
